ECHA updated Candidate List, a new substance added

Helsinki,10 July 2017 – ECHA updated the candidate list of substances of very high concern (SVHCs), adding the substance PFHxS to the Candidate List and updating the existing entries for Bisphenol A (BPA) and four Phthalates to include their endocrine-disrupting properties affecting human health. There are totally 174 substances included in the candidate list till now. This amendement is based on proposal from Sweden.

Echa updates the guidance on substance in article

Helsinki, 28 June 2017- European Chemical Agency officially published the fourth version of guidance on requirement for substance in articles. The updated guidance includes amending examples in line with the judgement of the Court of Justice of 10 September 2015, which further clarified the scope of the obligations. According to the ruling, the legal obligations also apply to articles that are present in complex products – for example, a component of a car or a washing machine. As it said, the 0.1% threshold for notifying SVHCs in articles applies to each of them. Echa also updates and improves the existing examples, thanks to experience gained and questions received.

China consults on proposed RoHS first batch of compliance management catalogue

Beijing 29 July, 2017- The ministry of industry and information technology of the people’s Republic of China (MIIT) published the first batch of compliance management catalogue on the restriction of hazardous substance (RoHS) in electrical and electronic equipment and the exemption restriction substance list. The long-awaited China RoHS standard management directory make a first appearance in society and this consulting deadline is June, 28 2017.

Sweden intents to restrict MCCPs under EU RoHS

Swedish Chemical Agency (Kemi) has conducted a consultation on its proposal to restrict medium-chained chlorinated paraffins(MCCP) since October 2015. This proposal consulting nearly two years evaluates many aspects of the impact of MCCPs. And at this stage, Swedish Chemical Agency(Kemi) is investigating to propose the restriction of MCCPs under EU’s RoHS.

Overview of RAPEX notifications in May 2017

In accordance with the General Product Safety Directive 2001/95/EC (GPSD) and Regulation 765/2008, in June 2017 the European Commission validated 148 notifications1 on dangerous products and transmitted them to the Member States (EU Member States and EEA-EFTA countries Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway). Most of these concerned products presenting serious risk: 130 notifications (88%). 10 notifications (7%) concerned products presenting less than serious risk and 8 notifications (5%) were circulated for information.

Overview of RASFF FCM notifications in June 2017

The European Commission validated354 RASFF notifications this month, including 333 notifications on food, accounting for 94.06%; 13 notifications on feed, accounting for 3.67%; 8 notifications on food contact materials (FCMs), accounting for 2.25%, in which 7 products from China are contained, accounting for 87.50%.

Monthly overview report of AQSIQ notifications on imported goods in May 2017

General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People's Republic of China (AQSIQ) validated notifications on 77 batches of imported industrial goods, which were found non-compliant during inspection and quarantine process at the entry ports of China. They have not been offered for sale on the China market yet and are re-dispatched or destroyed instead according to laws.
