13 March 2019, the European Chemicals Agency, has published proposals for three chemicals to be identified as SVHC and launched a public comment, which will end at 29 April, 2019. If a substance is identified as an SVHC, it will be added to the Candidate List for eventual inclusion in the Authorisation List. The information of the three substances is as follows:

19 March 2019, 19 Member States are to evaluate 100 substances over the next three years. For the 31 substances specified for 2019, the evaluating authorities have 12 months from today to carry out their evaluations. The main purpose of the evaluation is to clarify whether further information is needed to conclude whether a substance poses a risk to humans or the environment. If necessary, the registrant will be required to provide this information.

20 March, 2019, the Official Journal of the European Union released the directive (EU) 2019/448, proposing to list the methoxychlor (CAS No: 72-43-5, EC No 200-779-9) in Annex A to the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants. This Decision shall enter into force on the date of its adoption. The Commission, on behalf of the Union, shall communicate the proposal to the Secretariat of the Convention with all the information required under Annex D to the Convention.

The European Commission validated 305 RASFF notifications this month, including 269 notifications on food, accounting for 88.2%; 26 notifications on feed, accounting for 8.5%; 10 notifications on food contact materials (FCMs), accounting for 3.28%. 10 of the products are from China, accounting for 100%. The prime hazards for FCMs are migration of elements.

The European Commission validated 368 RASFF notifications this month, including 331 notifications on food, accounting for 89.95%; 25 notifications on feed, accounting for 6.79%; 12 notifications on food contact materials (FCMs), accounting for 3.26%. 9 of the products are from China, accounting for 75%. The prime hazards for FCMs are migration of elements.

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalls 19 batches of products in February 2019. There are 13 batches of Chinese products, accounting for 68.42%. Accompanying remedies (refund, replacement and repair) are taken for such notifications.As notified on the CPSC website, some customers have already got injured due to the potential hazards.So it is important to track the recalls of products to ensure consumers' legitimate interests and rights.
