23 July 2019, the Official Journal of European Union released the directive (EU) 2019/1254. This directive updated the standard of toy trampolines EN 71-14:2018, which replaced the previous version EN 71-14:2014+A1:2017. The old standard will expire on 22 January 2020 and this directive takes effect immediately.

21 August 2019, the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) opened a public consultation on food contact substances. These substances include additives and resins that are either new or under consideration to be used in an expanded scope or level. Comments shall be accepted by the Chinese authorities until 19 September 2019.

9 August 2019, The Philippines' Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released a notice to ban the use of bisphenol A (BPA) in infant feeding bottles and sippy cups and production, import and sale of products containing BPA are prohibited. The notice says the ban will take effect 30 days after its publication in two newspapers of general circulation and its submission to the Office of the National Administrative Register at the University of the Philippines' Law Center.

The European Commission has requested an Opinion from its Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) on three zinc oxide coatings for use as UV filters in dermally applied cosmetics. SCCS is to deliver the Opinion before March 2020.

7 August 2019,Canada Gazette released a notice SOR / 2019-275 to add 9 substances to Domestic Substance List, which is the country’s inventory of chemicals manufactured in or imported into the country. It means that they are no longer subject to substance notification and assessment requirements for new chemicals.

The European Commission validated 384 RASFF notifications this month, including 333 notifications on food, accounting for 86.72%; 35 notifications on feed, accounting for 9.11%; 16 notifications on food contact materials (FCMs), accounting for 4.17%. 13 of the products are from China, accounting for 81.25%. The prime hazards for FCMs are migration of elements.

Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalls 32 batches of products in July 2019. There are 27 batches of Chinese products, accounting for 84.375%. Accompanying remedies (refund, replacement and repair) are taken for such notifications.As notified on the CPSC website, some customers have already got injured due to the potential hazards.So it is important to track the recalls of products to ensure consumers' legitimate interests and rights.
