Child Safety Seats

Child Safety Seats (also known as CRS, Child Restraint System) are seats designed specifically to protect children from injury or death during collisions.

Considering its regulatory framework for vehicles is identical to that of Europe, China chooses Economic Commission of Europe Regulation 44 (also known as ECE R44) as the major reference in order to harmonise with other standards. GB 27887 Restraining Devices for Child Occupants of Power-driven Vehicles specifies terms and definitions of Child Restraint System (CRS), its installation and fixation, restraint system structure, performance requirements and test methods on CRS assembly and parts thereof. Pursuant to GB 27887, CRS is categorised as the following groups according to children’s weights:

  • Group 0: children under 10 kg of weight;
  • Group 0+: children under 13 kg of weight;
  • Group I: children between 9 kg to 18 kg of weight;
  • Group II: children between 15 kg to 25 kg of weight;
  • Group III: children between 22 kg to 36 kg of weight.
